Homemade Natural Mosquito Repellents

Mosquitoes have always been associated with some of the most dreaded diseases like dengue, malaria, chikungunya, elephantiasis, etc. Every year, the number of cases of people being affected by such diseases is growing at a rampant speed and this has raised a lot of concern for the big menace caused by mosquitoes in the society. Although there are mosquito repellents and chemical insecticides and sprays available in the market, the prolonged use of such products also have their harmful side effects. One better option is to opt for natural ways to get rid of mosquitoes at home.
Homemade Natural Mosquito RepellentsPresenting below some of the most natural keep mosquitoes at-bay in your house:

  • Lemon with cloves: The latest doing the rounds in Whatsapp messages nowadays is the use of lemons and cloves as mosquito repellents. You need one lemon for this and 12 to 24 cloves. Cut the lemon into two halves and insert 6 to 12 cloves in each of the halves. Place them in any corner of a room. Both cloves and lemons are known to have insect repelling properties, particularly against mosquitoes and flies.
  • Mint leaves: According to medical studies, mint leaves and mint extracts are very effective as indoor mosquito repellent. One best way to use mint as a repellent is by using a vapouriser. Add few mint leaves or mint extracts in a vapouriser filled with water. When the steam comes out of the vapouriser, the scent of mint also comes out and spreads all across the room. Instead of a vapouriser, you can also add the mint leaves or extracts in a spray bottle and spray it around your home. Some say that mixing little bit of mint-flavoured mouthwash with water and spraying it all around can also act as mosquitoes repellent.
  • Essential oils: You can infuse the extracts of essential oils like Citronella, lavender, tea tree in a candle or use it in a vapouriser to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Such oil sprays also act as natural room fresheners.

  • Garlic: Not only garlic is good for health, it is also good for preventing numerous diseases caused by mosquitoes. It acts as an effective natural way to kill mosquitoes. One possible reason for this is that garlic has a strong and pungent odour that keeps the mosquitoes stay away. To use garlic as an insect repellent, crush up a few pods of garlic and boil it in water. Now keep the boiling water inside a spray bottle and spray around the room to keep it mosquito free.
  • Tusli: It is also said that keeping a small tulsi shrub near your entrance or window can keep mosquitoes away.
  • Plant more trees: Generally we feel that more the number of plants and trees near our surroundings, the more is the space for the breeding ground of mosquitoes. But this is a wrong concept. In fact if you are really fond of gardening, make sure to get some of the mosquito repellent plants like as tulsi, mint, lemon, neem, citronella, catnip, lavender, etc. Plant these in your garden or in small tubs and keep mosquitoes away from your home.

The Prime Minister of India BMW SECURITY

The Prime Minister of India has been travelling the world over in the Air India One private aircraft but when it comes to travelling around in India, he uses a BMW 760Li which is a tank disguised as a limousine. Although he preaches 'Make in India' he cannot travel in any other indigenous made car as the choice of the car rests with the SPG (Special Protection Group) which has certain prescribed standards for safety and security of the cars that are going to ferry the PM. The same vehicle was also used by his predecessor Manmohan Singh.

Coming back to the car itself, the BMW 7 Series that our Prime Minister drives around is a highly secured armour clad luxury mobile, which sports a V12 engine churning out 546 PS of peek power and can do a 0 – 100 kmph sprint is 6.2 sec and has a top speed of 210 kmph. This car is compliant with a VR7 grade of ballistic protection and parts of it comply with a higher VR9 grade of protection as well. Its cabin can turn into a gas-safe chamber in case of a gas attack and is also equipped with a back-up oxygen tank.

As for other super safety features this car has a self-sealing fuel tank that cannot explode in any circumstances. Also on board, similar to Obama's car, is a fire-fighting system, emergency exit and thick bullet-proof windows.  It also has armour plates beneath to withstand mines and bombs and run flat tyres which work for several kilometres. The car also possesses advanced heat sensors to provide protection from bombs and missiles. Modi's BMW is considerably lighter than Obama's Cadillac, making it easier to maneuver. However, the Cadillac One generates greater momentum.

The Parker Solar mission

The Parker Solar Probe will be the first spacecraft to fly into the low solar corona. It will assess the structure and dynamics of the Sun's coronal plasma and magnetic field, the energy flow that heats the solar corona and impels the solar wind, and the mechanisms that accelerate energetic particles.
The spacecraft's systems are protected from the extreme heat and radiation near the Sun by a solar shield. Incident solar radiation at perihelion is approximately 650 kW/m2, or 475 times the intensity at Earth orbit. The solar shield is hexagonal, mounted on the Sun-facing side of the spacecraft, 2.3 m (7.5 ft) in diameter, 11.4 cm (4.5 in) thick, and is made of reinforced carbon–carbon composite, which is designed to withstand temperatures outside the spacecraft of about 1,370 °C (2,500 °F). A white reflective alumina surface layer minimizes absorption. The spacecraft systems and scientific instruments are located in the central portion of the shield's shadow, where direct radiation from the Sun is fully blocked. If the shield were not between the spacecraft and the Sun, the probe would be damaged and become inoperative within tens of seconds. As radio communication with Earth will take about eight minutes, the Parker Solar Probe will have to act autonomously and rapidly to protect itself. This will be done using four light sensors to detect the first traces of direct sun light coming from the shield limits and engaging movements from fly wheels to reposition the spacecraft within the shadow again. According to project scientist Nicky Fox, the team describe it as "the most autonomous spacecraft that has ever flown".
The primary power for the mission is a dual system of solar panels (photovoltaic arrays). A primary photovoltaic array, used for the portion of the mission outside 0.25 AU, is retracted behind the shadow shield during the close approach to the Sun, and a much smaller secondary array powers the spacecraft through closest approach. This secondary array uses pumped-fluid cooling to maintain operating temperature of the solar panels and instrumentation.

Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor

JICA officials visited Mumbai in January 2014 to discuss the details of the project, and made selective site visits to the proposed route. On 21 January, following several meetings between JICA and Indian Railways officials, it was proposed to originate the corridor at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai. The proposed route would begin from BKC, go right up to Thane on the Central Line, and then take a diversion on the Trans-Harbour route which is on the Thane-Diva-Vasai-Virar stretch. The corridor would then switch over to the Western Line, before entering Gujarat and terminating at Ahmedabad. 12 stations were proposed on the route, of which 8 would have been in Gujarat. The intention behind taking the route via Thane is to keep the option open to link the corridor to Pune. The team also proposed other options for originating the line at either Bandra Terminus or Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, if the BKC option was unfeasible. Air-conditioned bullet trains are expected to operate in the corridor at speeds of 320 km/h, enabling commuters to traverse the 534 km distance in 2 hours. Currently, the fastest train operating on this sector is the Ahmedabad Duronto Express, which takes Six and Quarter hours to reach Mumbai Central from Ahmedabad running non-stop between these two cities at a maximum speed of 130 km/h.
The project held its first full-fledged meeting at the Railway Ministry in the first week of April 2014, to bring about a broad consensus on the project, especially between the governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Maharashtra and Gujarat governments, and the JICA, and Railway Board officials. At the meeting, officials agreed to begin the line from BKC, and then take it to Thane and onward to Virar. The Maharashtra government was in favour of connecting the line with Belapur as well, in order to bring high-speed rail to Navi Mumbai. However, railway officials were opposed to the Belapur detour. Officials also discussed the need to ensure that the terminal at BKC would be connected to Line 3 of the Mumbai Metro, enabling commuters from South Mumbai to reach BKC.
